IRS and California tax problems

A notice is a request for information with a deadline. It has a process, and the process can be followed.

GTS handles agency correspondence for East Bay taxpayers. The work starts with reading the notice accurately and ends with a documented response filed on time.

If your deadline is close

Call the office at (510) 635-6500 so the deadline can be assessed the same day. Please do not attach or email the notice — bring it to the office or upload it to the secure ClientHub after intake.

What we will not tell you

We do not promise settlements for a fraction of the balance, guaranteed penalty removal, an accepted offer, a released lien, or stopped collection activity. Outcomes depend on the facts, the agency's procedures, and your financial circumstances — none of which can be promised in advance.

What we can commit to is an accurate reading of the notice, a documented response within the deadline, and a clear explanation of the alternatives that actually apply to your situation.

How the work proceeds

A defined sequence, not a scramble

  1. 01

Identify the agency and the deadline

The first task is reading the notice: which agency sent it, which tax year it concerns, what it is asking for, and the date by which a response is due.

  2. 02

    Authorize representation

A signed authorization lets Elizabeth, as an Enrolled Agent, communicate with the IRS on your behalf within the scope you approve. California agencies use their own authorization forms.

  3. 03

    Obtain and reconcile the record

We compare what the agency has on file with your records to find out whether the notice is correct, partly correct, or based on missing information.

  4. 04

    Respond within the deadline

The response may be documentation, a corrected or previously unfiled return, a written explanation, or a request for additional time.

  5. 05

    Work through the outcome

Depending on the finding, next steps may include an examination response, an appeal, a payment arrangement, or another alternative available under the agency's procedures.
